24-year old Toronto native Daniel Benjamin and collaborator/co-conspirator Maddy Wilde have been making music together for most of their lives; as Moon King, the two singers weave dreamlike harmonies over buzz-saw guitars and electronic percussion, their live performances capturing a raw-nerve intensity that verges on ecstatic. Obsession I mixes the ethereal charm of the Cocteau Twins with the propulsive rhythms of Disco Inferno. Many of Daniel’s songs appeal to our darker subconscious desires, reveling in the embrace of fear and ego as a means of escape.

Moon King’s debut 12? Obsession I is released August 14th on One Big Silence, the label run by Mike Haliechuk of Fucked Up, and home to the debut releases by Austra and Diamond Rings. Daniel has also been touring as a member of his brother Airick’s project Doldrums. The 12? was self-produced and then mixed in NYC by Shane Stoneback (Sleigh Bells, Cults, Fucked Up)

Funeral Suits are a four-piece from Ireland consisting of Brian James, Mik McKeogh, Greg McCarthy and Dar Grant. The music they make is expansive without being overblown, heavy without being menacing and all the more thrilling for its restraint.

A shared love of epic, distorted guitars, blistering harmonius pop, art rock and
electronica led to the band spending the best part of two years holed up in a disused office space in deepest North County Dublin, writing, rehearsing and at times venturing out to play as special guests for Franz Ferdinand, Passion Pit, The Maccabees, Local Natives amongst others.

Funeral Suits have recorded their debut album ‘Lily of the Valley’ with acclaimed producer Stephen Street (Blur, The Smiths) which has been released on Model Citizen records on June 1st 2012 in Ireland and June 4th everywhere else.

“The only agenda we have is to make the best music we can.” No Ceremony/// have a perhaps unfair reputation as a reclusive and non-conforming band. The second part is certainly true. The misconception about their wish to remain anonymous is something that they speak of with understandable reason, “The first thing to make clear is that we never actively set out to be ‘mysterious’ or ‘secretive’, it just seems to be something we’re associated with due to our unwillingness to engage in that side of being in a band.” They continued, “When we first released [earlier single] Hurtlove, we just wanted to get the track out there, and didn’t really see the need or point of writing a bio or getting some press shots taken. The way we see it we’re musicians - we just want to make music, and the rest shouldn’t really matter.”

That may come across as slightly indulgent but there’s a serious point that they’re making. “I think music in general is becoming more and more concerned with the personality selling the music and less about the quality of the music itself,” and certainly that can’t be denied in the wider framework of chart music in particular. Why do we fall in love with bands? Is it because the people are so compelling? Well, yes, but their most compelling characteristic is the music that they create and therefore that should be the only real concern.

Urban Cone sind 5 junge und talentierte Schweden, namentlich Emil Gustafsson, Rasmus Flyckt, Magnus Folkö, Tim Formgren and Jacob William Sjöberg, die sich 2010 gründeten.

Die Stockholmer haben vor einem knappen Jahr bereits “Urban Photgraph” auf ihre Seite gestellt und bekamen viel Aufmerksamkeit von Blogs und Tastemakern. Kürzlich haben die Jungs bei Universal Schweden unterschrieben und ihre Single erscheint dort als 10? und digital auf dem berühmten Polar Label (ABBA etc.).

Momentan ist die Band im Studio mit Mixen für ihre EP beschäftigt, die noch im Oktober erscheinen soll. Die EP wird produziert von Nille Perned, den man auch für seine Arbeit mit Miike Snow, Kent und Broder Daniel kennt.

Am 28. September diesen Jahres startet die B.i.N. in die vierte Runde.
Nach drei erfolgreichen Jahren, geschmackvollen Headlinern und aufstrebenden Newcomer Acts, wird die diesjährige Independent Sause in sieben locations rund um die Oberbaumbrücke statt finden!
Neben den alt bewährten Clubs Astra, Bi Nuu, Lido und Festsaal Kreuzberg öffnen dieses Jahr zum ersten Mal der neue privatclub, das Cassio- peia und das Badehaus Szimpla ihre Pforten.
Somit leuchten Kreuzberg und Friedrichshain bis in die Morgenstunden voll und ganz unter dem Indie-Stern. Gut 20 Bands werden in den Clubs - alle in Laufweite voneinander entfernt - die Bühnen entern und auch diesmal werden sich bekannte Lieblingsbands und ausgesuchte Noch-Geheimtipps die Instrumente in die Hände geben.
Nach dem Live-Programm ist Feiern vor den Turntables angesagt, die Aftershowparties starten im direkten Anschluss. Einige der allerbesten Berliner Indie DJs werden bis in die Morgenstunden feinste Hitsalven abfeuern.

Das Ticket Prinzip? Wie in den Jahren zuvor: Fair & simple. Mit nur einem Ticket, im VVK für schlappe 20,- € (zzgl. VVK Gebühren) zu erstehen, sichert man sich den Zugang zu allen sieben Clubs. Zumindest solange die Kapazität der jeweiligen Location reicht. Frühes Erscheinen ist ratsam, langes Abfeiern angesagt!
